Hunts Point faces some of the most extreme health disparities in New York City. With a poverty rate of 42.1%, the highest in the city, and asthma hospitalization rates four times the citywide average, this community bears a disproportionate burden of preventable disease.

The mental health crisis is equally acute. One in five adults in Hunts Point reports frequent mental distress, yet the neighborhood has among the fewest mental health providers per capita in the Bronx. Substance use disorders compound these challenges, and residents often have to travel outside their community to access psychiatric care.
