A teenager has been using over-the-counter acne products for a year with no improvement, and now the breakouts are leaving dark marks that will not fade. A grandmother notices a mole on her palm that has changed shape. A mother’s child has eczema that looks ashy gray, not red, and the last doctor said it was just dry skin. These are the cases that walk into our dermatology practice every week.

Our team diagnoses and treats eczema, psoriasis, acne, hidradenitis suppurativa, fungal infections, and suspicious lesions. We also perform full-body skin cancer screenings with dermatoscopy. Skin of color expertise is central to how the practice operates, because conditions present differently on darker skin and misdiagnosis is common at practices without that training.

For severe or resistant cases, treatment options include biologic therapies, isotretinoin, and phototherapy. We also offer cosmetic dermatology consultations for patients interested in Botox, fillers, or hyperpigmentation treatment.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What skin conditions do you treat?
We treat a wide range of skin conditions including acne, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, fungal infections, rashes, skin allergies, warts, moles, suspicious skin lesions, hair loss, and hyperpigmentation. We also perform skin cancer screenings and provide cosmetic dermatology consultations.
Do I need a referral to see a dermatologist?
Referral requirements depend on your insurance plan. Most Medicaid and HMO plans require a referral from your primary care provider. If you are a patient at Moses Medical, your primary care doctor can submit a referral right away and often schedule you the same week. PPO plans typically do not require a referral.
What should I expect during a skin exam?
During a full skin exam, your dermatologist will visually inspect your skin from head to toe, looking for any unusual moles, growths, or changes. The exam typically takes 15 to 20 minutes. You may be asked to undress to a gown so the doctor can check areas not normally exposed to the sun. If anything looks concerning, a biopsy may be recommended.
How often should I have a skin cancer screening?
We recommend an annual skin cancer screening for all adults, especially if you have a family history of skin cancer, a history of sunburns, many moles, or fair skin. If you notice a new mole, a mole that has changed in size, shape, or color, or a sore that does not heal, schedule an appointment right away.
